Victoria Falls to Become Tourism Hub

Zimbabwe’s government has announced plans to transform three key tourist destinations, Victoria Falls, Hwange and Kariba, into a regional tourism hub through its Special Economic Zone (SEZ) project.

Prisca Mupfumira, minister, tourism, Zimbabwe, put emphasis on the famous waterfalls, stating: “We want Victoria Falls to be the main centre of attraction for the continent.”

The government has already spent USD150 million towards modernising and extending Victoria Falls International Airport, as the region is anticipating a tourism boom.

Mupfumira also noted that the government was looking at transforming the earmarked SEZ, which would come with taxation and special concession benefits, into a virtual city.

The development, expected to boast world-class artificial beaches, conference facilities, hotels and marinas, will aim to encourage more medical, sports, and MICE tourism.
