German and Mexican dignitaries recently visited TUI Group’s Berlin Corporate Office to hear the company’s plans for Mexico first-hand from Thomas Ellerbeck, member, group executive committee, TUI Group.
According to a TUI announcement, Ellerbeck revealed that, “This year alone, our RIU subsidiary is planning to open two new hotels in Mexico.” One of the hotels is a RIU Palace Hotel on the Costa Mujeres in Cancun, and the second is currently under construction at Baja California on the Mexican Pacific coast.
TUI Group plans to increase the number of its Mexico-based hotels from currently 18 to 20 by the end of the year, towards extending its Mexican portfolio to cater to around one million guests per year.
Looking at TUI Hotel & Resorts’ business, Mexico is the fifth largest destination after Spain, Egypt, Greece and Turkey. Mexico is also the most important long-haul destination for this segment, followed by Dominican Republic and Jamaica.
