American and Qantas Seek Joint Business

US aviation giant, American Airlines, and Australia’s Qantas have filed an application with US Department of Transportation seeking approval to form a joint business better serving customers flying between North America, Australia and New Zealand.

The airlines said the proposed joint business would significantly improve service, stimulate demand and unlock more than USD300 million annually.

This includes up to a USD221 million value from expanding codesharing between American and Qantas, and opening more connections to more destinations.

Up to USD89 million could also be achieved by offering more fare classes across each airline’s networks, including lower fares and discounts.

The joint business will also give American and Qantas the opportunity to launch additional routes, including new flights to city pairs currently not served by either carrier.
