Memphis Cook Convention Center to Undergo Renovation

The city of Memphis has officially filed a USD175 million construction permit for a ground up transformation of the Memphis Cook Convention Center that will kick-off in the first quarter of this year, and wrap up construction in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Jim Strickland, mayor, Memphis, announced plans for the project, pending the city council’s approval, to coincide with the city’s bicentennial year as part of the Bicentennial Gateway.

Architectural firm Looney Ricks Kiss and tvsdesign have collaborated to develop a design plan that utilises and enhances the existing facility. Their vision is to expand the footprint of the building with outdoor terraces and glass enclosed concourses, pre-function and meetings spaces that embrace the river and skyline views, while adding valuable square footage that includes additional breakout meeting rooms, allowing more meeting and convention opportunities.
