December US Hotel Performance by STR

The US hotel industry reported positive results in the three key performance metrics during December 2017, according to data from STR.

In a year-over-year comparison with December 2016, the industry recorded an occupancy rate increase of 2.3 percent to 54 percent and an average daily rate rise of 2.2 percent to USD121.86. In addition, revenue per available room (RevPAR) increased by 4.6 percent to USD65.85.

Among the top 25 markets, Houston, reported the largest increase in RevPAR, up 30.9 percent to USD60.77, due primarily to the largest rise in occupancy, up 19.5 percent to 60.6 percent. New Orleans, experienced the only other double-digit increase in occupancy with a rise of 14.1 percent to 63.6 percent and the second-highest jump in RevPAR, up 26.1 percent to USD90.05.
