According to International Air Transport Association (IATA), in January, freight tonne kilometres rose 6.9 percent yearon- year, indicating increased demand for global air cargo markets.

While this figure is a drop compared to the 10 percent growth recorded in December 2016, it is still well above the average annual growth rate of three percent seen in the past five years.

Additionally, during the month under review, available freight tonne kilometres slowed to 3.5 percent.

In particular, Middle Eastern carriers saw an 8.4 percent year-on- year boost in cargo volumes in January, while capacity surged 3.3 percent.
