Lima Accounts for Over a Half of Peru´s Tourism

Lima accounts for 59 percent of travel and tourism GDP in Peru, as the city is a pivotal hub and gateway to the rest of the country, with 90 percent of visitors to Peru spending at least one night in the capital, revealed a new report by the World Travel & Tourism Council, Latin America City Travel & Tourism Impact.

Travel and tourism contributes 4.6 percent of Lima’s GDP, a total of USD4.5 billion in 2016. International spend is responsible for 35.4 percent of tourism revenue, and the US tops the source market list with 25 percent. The total contribution of Peru´s travel and tourism to GDP was USD19.6 billion, 10.1 percent of GDP in 2016. The total contribution of travel and tourism to employment was 8.2 percent of total employment.
