Allianz: Fewer Americans Consider Travelling to Cuba This Year

An annual survey by leading travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance reveals fewer US citizens are interested in taking a trip to Cuba than before and that lingering confusion surrounding current travel policies remains.

This year’s survey shows that 13 percent of US travellers are interested in travelling to Cuba, a dramatic 27 percent drop from 2017. This year’s poll also revealed that 82 percent of respondents report being unlikely to plan a trip to Cuba, a six percent increase from 2017.

A staggering 55 percent of respondents do not understand the current restrictions on travel to Cuba. According to Allianz, visiting Cuba purely for tourism it is still not permitted under US or Cuban law. US travellers’ reasons for visiting Cuba must generally fall within one of 12 categories of authorised travel.
