The latest International Visitor Survey released by Tourism Research Australia shows that 953,800 international travellers visited Western Australia in the year ending in March, soaring 9.1 percent year-on-year.

The leisure sector marked the highest growth, with the number of holidaymakers from overseas rising 17.7 percent year-to-date. During the reviewed period, the region also recorded 7.9 percent higher tourism spending, which reached AUD2.4 billion (USD1.82 billion).

Gwyn Dolphin, CEO, Tourism Western Australia, noted, “Attracting 71,700 more holidaymakers from overseas […] shows that the focus on promoting Perth as a holiday destination is seeing returns. Our marketing activity is firmly targeted on this sector as more hotel rooms come online and new tourism attractions open up.”
