Record Year for Hong Kong Airport

During the fiscal year 2016-2017, Hong Kong International Airport set new annual records, exceeding the 70 million mark for the first time with 70.5 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 1.1 percent.

Moreover, flight movements rose 0.1 percent to 410,440, while cargo volume expanded 6.7 percent to 4.6 million tonnes, securing the hub as the world’s busiest cargo airport for the seventh consecutive year.

During the reviewed period, 14 new global destinations were added and four new carriers began operations from the gateway, namely Austrian Airlines, Vietjet, T’Way Air and Bismillah Airlines.

To cope with future air traffic demand, the construction of its third runway began in August, 2016, new facilities are being added to Terminal 1 and plans for SKYCITY were unvieled.
