HKIA Witnesses Significant Growth

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) announced that January saw strong cargo throughput growth, handling 410,000 tonnes, a 9.9 percent year-on-year surge.

Flight movements increased 1.9 percent to 35,985 while passenger throughput slightly decreased 0.9 percent to 6.13 million compared with the same month last year. As the Chinese New Year period fell this February, Hong Kong resident travel for January declined by eight percent year-on-year, a slight drop for total passenger traffic.

Among the key trading regions, traffic to/from Europe and India increased most significantly during January. On a 12-month rolling basis, HKIA handled 4.97 million tonnes of cargo, 72.8 million passengers and 421,300 flight movements, registering 9.7 percent growth, 2.9 percent and 2.3 percent respectively year-on-year.
