Tasmania Tourism Grows During 2017

Tourism Tasmania released the latest results of its Tasmanian Visitor Survey, revealing that, during 2017, a total of 1.26 million visitors travelled to the country, up two percent from 2016.

Total visitor expenditure increased by eight percent and, importantly, the entire state is sharing the benefits of the visitor economy with growth across all regions, meaning visitors are travelling further afield and spending time outside the island’s major cities.

Tourism Research Australia recently released its Tourism Satellite Accounts 2016 – 2017 research, which indicates that Tasmanian tourism contributes about AUD3.03 billion (USD2.3 billion) both directly and indirectly to the gross state product.

It also indicates that tourism directly and indirectly supports around 15.8 percent of total Tasmanian employment, or around 38 000 jobs.
