Indonesia’s Tourism Industry sets Ambitious Targets

World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) revealed that Indonesia’s travel and tourism sector is expected to generate 2.4 million new jobs.

Travel and tourism has contributed 6.2 percent of Indonesia’s GDP, a total of IDR770 trillion (USD56.9 billion), while the capital Jakarta contributed 41 percent of the country’s total travel and tourism business.

Joko Widodo, president, Indonesia, has set an ambitious target of attracting 20 million visitors in 2019, nearly double that of 2016. He also called for USD20 billion in tourism investment to support this rapid growth.

Speaking at Panorama Mega Conference in Jakarta, Gloria Guevara, president, WTTC, stated, “I congratulate President Widodo [...] and Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya, on their prioritisation of and commitment to our industry.”
