WA Reveals Action Plan to Boost Visitor Numbers

Tourism Western Australia (WA) has launched a two-year plan with the aim of increasing the number of visitors to the State.

Its Two-year Action Plan focuses on four key areas that will help drive visitation, including positioning the State as Australia’s western gateway; promoting Perth as an affordable, vibrant destination close to nature; attracting more people to regional WA; and intensifying promotional activity at target markets to encourage travel to the State. Nathan Harding, board chairman, Tourism WA, revealed, “This plan will attract more visitors to WA, encourage them to stay longer, disperse further and do more when they visit.”

The State Government is scheduled to provide AUD425 million (USD329 million) to Tourism WA over the next five years, for destination marketing and events. Highlights of the plan include maximising leisure visitation through AFL tourism; working with flag carrier Qantas to promote the iconic London – Perth route; securing and hosting major travel trade events; attracting more overseas direct flights to Perth; and the launch of a new home-grown Perth event during 2019.
