Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to attend this year’s Margaret River Pro 2018 surfing event which initially began on April 11, and is scheduled to continue until April 22, at Surfers Point, Prevelly, Western Australia.

Margaret River Pro is supported by State Government through Tourism Western Australia’s (WA) Regional Events programme.

"Hosting international sporting events is an important part of our two-year Action Plan to drive visitation, including positioning WA as Australia's western gateway; changing perceptions of Perth and attracting more people, more often to regional WA,” expanded Paul Papalia, tourism minister, Australia.

The event forms part of the World Surf League’s World Championship Tour (WCT), where the top ranked 34 male (plus two wild card entries) and 17 female surfers (plus one wild card entry) compete over a 12-day period. Margaret River Pro is one of 11 WCT events globally, occurring at iconic destinations including, Pipeline on the North Shore of Hawaii, Jeffreys Bay (South Africa) and Teahupo’o Tahiti.

Competing surfers will include star names such as, Kelly Slater, John John Florence, Filipe Toledo, Gabriel Medina, Joel Parkinson, Tyler Wright, Stephanie Gilmore, Sally Fitzgibbons and Bronte Macaulay.
