Western Australia Welcomes Perth SuperSprint

Virgin Australia Supercars Championship drivers recently returned to Barbagallo Raceway for Perth SuperSprint.

Sponsored by Tourism Western Australia (WA), the May 04 – 06 event offered a range of activities and entertainment on and off the track. These included a separate racing event featuring 1,300 kg Stadium Super Trucks.

New Zealander Scott McLaughlin emerged Perth SuperSprint victor, keeping his perfect record for the event intact and reaching the finishing line eight seconds ahead of Australian David Reynolds.

Craig Lowndes, also an Australian national, rounded out the podium in third place.

Virgin Australia Supercars Championship is considered to be the premier motorsport category in Australasia and one of Australia’s highest-profile sports.

From 1960 to 1968, Australian Touring Car Championship was decided by a single race. From 1969 onwards it has been determined by a series.

The Perth SuperSprint is an annual event that has been included in the Championship timetable since 1973.
