Finavia Expanding Baggage Handling System at Helsinki Airport

Finavia is expanding the baggage handling system at Helsinki Airport.

By the end of 2019, when it is completed, the expansion will increase the capacity, safety and flow of baggage. This renewal is part of Finavia's EUR1 billion investment programme at Helsinki Airport.

The expansion of the baggage handling centre covers an area of 10,000 m2 on two floors and is located underneath the upcoming West Pier and Plaza. The expansion will lengthen the baggage handling belts by over three kilometres and increase the system’s capacity by over 50 percent. The expansion will also include various technical innovations and improvements, which in turn will increase the system’s reliability and the flow of baggage. According to Finavia, as the capacity of the airport increases, so will the number of passengers.
