ABTA Encouraging Sustainable Holidaying

Holidaymakers and UK travel industry stakeholders are being encouraged to make sustainable holiday pledges as part of the annual Make Holidays Greener campaign, led by Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and Travelife, an international certification scheme.

The theme for this year’s campaign is Say No to Plastic.

ABTA is encouraging the travel industry to inspire customers to find alternatives to plastic, such as using reusable bags or minimising use of plastic straws in drinks, and to inform ABTA about it when they have by either using #MHG18 on social media or contacting the body directly.

Anticipated to run from the first week of June until the end of August, the campaign also encourages businesses to undertake initiatives such as running a beach clean or reducing overall plastic usage.

As well as Say No to Plastic pledge, holidaymakers can choose from a further 14 sustainable holiday pledges covering all aspects of a holiday from eating local food to reducing their water usage.
