ITB Berlin to Focus on Sustainability

This year’s ITB Berlin will examine overtourism, integrating refugees and the financial viability of social tourism projects under the ‘sustainability’ heading.

From March 07 – 09, experts from around the world are due to discuss key issues and possible solutions at ITB Berlin Convention.

Germany’s Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the official ITB partner country, will feature numerous sustainable tourism projects. Attractions include a solar-powered boat on which visitors can take round trips across the Peene region’s National Park, and will leave a zero carbon footprint, a first for the show.

Rika Jean-Francois, CSR officer, ITB Berlin, noted, “Against a backdrop of climate change, growing ocean pollution, alarming human rights abuses, overtourism and global warming the need for this has never been more urgent.”
