Tourism Ireland Welcomes Positive Visitor Growth

Tourism Ireland welcomed 8,531,500 overseas visitors during the period January to October this year, representing a growth of 3.1 percent from the same period during 2016.

North American visitors went up by 16.4 percent between January to October 2016 while visitors from Australia and developing markets increased by 14.7 percent and from Europe by 4.4 percent.
Visitor numbers from the UK continues to be a concern, down 6.1 percent for the period under review, due to the fall in the value of GBP, which has made holidays and short breaks in Ireland more expensive for British visitors. Commenting on the above figures showing the growth of visitor numbers, Niall Gibbons, CEO, Tourism Ireland, said that increases in direct air access, plus market diversification strategy, have been key factors.
