CSB Reveals Latvia’s Travel Trends and Demographics

According to the latest data from Latvia’s Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), in 2017, residents of the country went on 1.3 million overnight trips abroad, which was 1.2 percent more than in 2016.

The most popular reasons for trips abroad were recreation (60.3 percent) and visiting friends and relatives (23.4 percent).

By demographic indicators, women (55.3 percent), residents aged 35-44 years (26 percent), residents with higher education (54.8 percent) and the employed (77.8 percent) were the ones most likely to go abroad.

The most popular destinations were neighbouring countries, Estonia (13.7 percent), Lithuania (12.1 percent), Russia (6.7 percent) and Belarus (six percent), comprising 38.6 percent of all the trips. Germany (11.7 percent) and Sweden (6.3 percent) also were among most popular destinations of Latvian residents.
