Maltese Islands Welcome 266,000 Tourists in June

Visitors to the Maltese Islands in June were estimated to have reached 265,823, up by 14.5 percent on the same period in 2017 according to the country’s National Statistics Office (NSO).

The NSO noted that 227,859 of these visits were carried out for holiday purposes, with a further 16,694 undertaken for business purposes.

Also, 215,429 of the tourists were from EU member states, up by 11.6 percent when compared to the corresponding month in 2017.

The number of nights spent went up by 15.5 percent on 2017, surpassing 1.8 million nights. The NSO said that the largest share of guest nights (55.1 percent) was spent in collective accommodation establishments.

During their stay in June tourists spent around EUR212.6 million (USD244.88 million), an increase of 9.7 percent on 2017.
