Decline for December 2020 Cyprus Tourist Arrivals

The arrivals of tourists to Cyprus reached 9,682 in December 2020 compared to 110,330 in December 2019, recording a decrease of 91,2 percent.

For the period of January – December 2020, arrivals of tourists totaled 631,609 compared to 3,976,777 in the corresponding period of 2019, recording a decrease of 84,1 percent.

It should be noted that in March 2020, a ban of entry to the Republic was imposed on several categories of persons, including tourists, up to June 08, 2020, as part of the measures taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) in Cyprus. As from  June 09, 2020, a gradual easing of the travel restrictions to Cyprus was implemented, allowing arrivals from specific countries, according to a categorization by the Ministry of Health, based on their epidemiological risk assessment.

Tourist arrivals from the UK decreased by 91,1 percent n December 2020 compared to December 2019, while a decrease of 73,8 percent was also recorded for tourists from Greece and 81,2 percent decrease from Germany.

For 25,6 percent of the tourists, the purpose of their trip in December 2020 was for holidays, for 51,8 percent to visit friends and relatives and for 22,6 percent for business reasons.
