According to SITA’s 2017 Air Transport IT Trends Insights report airlines and airports across the world are planning to invest USD33 billion this year on technology.

As IT spend increases, 95 percent of airlines and 96 percent of airports plan to invest in cyber security initiatives over the next three years.

Cloud services are another top investment priority continuing an upward trend that SITA has recorded since 2015.

The third key area of investment highlighted in the report is the need to provide extra self-service options to passengers.

Ilya Gutlin, president, air travel solutions, SITA, explained, “[...] The interdependencies built into air transport systems mean investments and improvements in all these areas, by airlines and airports alike, will continue to contribute to a strong global industry.”
