UNWTO Examines Tourism’s Sustainable Economies Role

World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and Sustainable Buildings and Construction Programme of the One Planet Network recently addressed tourism and construction’s key roles in a circular economy framework that supports sustainable development.

The two bodies addressed the challenge during the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York between July 09 – 18.

Best practices in circular economy thinking that can help the large economic sectors of tourism and construction shift to sustainable consumption and production were at the centre of a Tourism & Construction: Circular Economy solutions for SDG12 event organised by UNWTO.

It was suggested advancing sustainability in the tourism sector and fulfilling its responsibility in the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) benefits from new technological advances, continuous innovation and the strengthening of models such as the circular economy.
