Sofia Zoo Celebrates 130th Birthday with New Additions

On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the founding of Sofia Zoo there will be a lot of additions.

To begin with, the zoo is welcoming new inhabitants, reconstructing the animals’ homes, organising a summer cinema and demonstrations of how the animals react to toys or food.

Sofia Zoo is welcoming new members which include a new Bactrian camel, several red river hogs, a Chinese water dragon, an African spurred tortoise and a green tree python. A sloth bear – a two metre endangered species that inhabits the forests of India and doesn’t hibernate during the winter is expected to arrive soon. Recently the green aracaris (a type of toucan), the vultures, the mouflons and the meerkats have also welcomed new members to their families.
