Düsseldorf Airport Bees Produce Quality Harvest

The bees at Düsseldorf Airport produced 144 jars of quality honey from April to May. The take-off and landing area of the approximately 200,000 bees, in place since 2006, is located on the grounds of the Reitstalls Hoffmann in Düsseldorf-Kalkum and so in the immediate vicinity of the airport.

Kaiserswerth Beekeeping Association has been in charge of the airport bees from the start and the result of the diligent collection is examined by two specialist laboratories providing insights into the possible pollution of the airport environment. The result: no abnormalities.

Another ecologically positive effect is that without the targeted pollination by the bees, a large part of the wild and cultivated plants would be threatened with extinction. In addition, the pollination of crops ensures higher yields.
