Shanzhong Zhu has been appointed as executive director of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Prior to his appointment, Zhu was vice chairman of the China National Tourism Administration, overseeing international relations, marketing and promotions in domestic and overseas markets, tourism information centre, tourism security and the establishment of a public service network. Zhu previously worked for the China International Travel Service also.

In his new role Zhu will be responsible for overseeing the administration, programmes and strategic plans of UNWTO. Other key duties will include fundraising, marketing, and community outreach.
