A public-private partnership between South Africa's Department of Basic Education and hospitality and gaming company, Sun International has initiated, what is said to be the first-ever digital hospitality studies curriculum.

Recently concluded research regarding education within the hospitality industry showed a steady decline in hospitality studies offered by secondary schools since 2008 due to a lack of funding, indicating a need for private sector involvement.

The course will provide support and capacity for both teachers and students as government statistics highlight the importance of the industry to South Africa's economy, which created 32,186 new jobs and generated USD18.4 billion in 2015.
