oneworld Awards Scholarships for IATA Sustainability Training to Japan Airlines and S7 Airlines

The oneworld Alliance has awarded scholarships to member airlines Japan Airlines and S7 Airlines for a new environmental sustainability training programme offered by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) with the University of Geneva (UNIGE).

The scholarships will enable additional sustainability training and development opportunities and support Japan Airlines and S7 Airlines’ efforts in registering for the IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA), an evaluation system that independently assesses and improves the environmental management of an airline.

The scholarship winners are:

  • Michiko Otsu, manager for environment, social and governance promotion, Japan Airlines
  • Ekaterina Popova, head, enterprise compliance and risk management, S7 Airlines

Otsu and Popova will participate in the IATA – University of Geneva Certificate of Advanced Studies in Environmental Sustainability in Aviation, a new programme offered by IATA and UNIGE to equip aviation industry employees with the necessary fundamental technical and operational skills to further advance sustainability at their organisations.

The scholarships are among several ongoing efforts at oneworld and its member airlines, in an active commitment to advance environmental sustainability.

oneworld’s environmental sustainability efforts are overseen by the alliance’s Environment and Sustainability Board, chaired by IAG Head of Sustainability Jonathon Counsell and with representation from all member airlines.
