New Zealand Enjoys Golfing Boost to Key Markets

ISPS Handa New Zealand Open recently provided a valuable opportunity to promote New Zealand as a world-class golfing destination, announced Tourism New Zealand.

The country’s tourism authority hosted top international golf journalists from Australia, the US and South Korea who covered the March 01 – 04 event and travelled around the country to experience some of its marquee courses.

According to Tourism New Zealand, the visit generated media opportunities worth more than NZD1 million (USD730,000).

René de Monchy, director, PR, major events, trade, Tourism New Zealand, stated that golf is a growing niche market for the country, and one that targets high value visitors. “Golf visitors spend more and stay longer than average holiday visitors,” noted de Monchy. “ISPS Handa New Zealand Open provided a great opportunity to show more of our spectacular courses. It was particularly important to attract journalists from our key golfing markets, but also to get China, Japan and Korea media coverage of the event.”
