Melco Cyprus Organised Ayia Napa Harbour Seabed Clean-up

Melco Cyprus, operator of Cyprus Casinos (C2) and the upcoming integrated resort (IR) City of Dreams Mediterranean, organised an underwater clean-up of Ayia Napa Harbour on June 12.

The activity was part of a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability under Melco’s ‘Above & Beyond’ Strategy, while supporting efforts of the local community to effectively address increasing challenges.

The event took place under the auspices of Ayia Napa Municipality, with the support of the non-governmental organisation Nautilos. Aiming to raise awareness on the impact of pollution on the Mediterranean Sea’s ecosystem as well as contributing towards the reduction of marine litter, 10 Melco colleagues and 30 Nautilos volunteers dove in the sea at Ayia Napa Harbour to collect litter from the seabed.

Grant Johnson, property general manager, City of Dreams Mediterranean and Cyprus Casinos, stated, “I would like to extend my deep gratitude to the Municipality of Ayia Napa and Nautilos for making this event possible. Special thanks also to our colleagues who volunteered their time to take part in the clean-up. Cyprus and Ayia Napa are known to be home to some of the Mediterranean Sea’s beaches with the best water quality. It is therefore our duty to protect the country’s valuable marine environment from emerging environmental challenges as we further advance our CSR activities with this unique seabed clean-up. Melco’s sustainable development stands at the core of our philosophy and as such, our objectives are to proactively address key environmental and social challenges by implementing long-term strategic planning and sustainable practices in our resorts across the globe.”
