Tanzanian Arrival Stats Reveal Key Markets

Tanzania reported the US as its biggest source market for tourism, according to data compiled by the country’s natural resources and tourism ministry.

More specifically, the country received 107,361 visitors from North America, of which 81 percent were from the US.

The top 10 source markets for 2017 were the US, the UK, Germany, Italy, India, Israel, France, China, The Netherlands and Canada.

Although the number of Chinese visitors dropped by about 5,000 in 2017, from 34,472 in 2016, the ministry hopes this will pick up after the introduction of direct flights between Dar es Salaam and China, using Air Tanzania’s newly purchased aircraft.

Also, despite India and China coming only fifth and eighth on the list of arrivals, Tanzania’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) found they were the highest-spending visitors to Tanzania.
