Algiers Airport Expansion Completed by Early 2019

Abdelghani Zaalane, minister, public works and transport, Algeria, stated that Houari Boumediene Airport's expansion project should be ready by the beginning of 2019.

The new airport will reportedly feature a train station, four-star hotel, refurbished runway and a new air traffic control tower.

The airport is located about 17 km away from Algiers city centre and, as reported by Algerian news publication, El Moudjahid, ahead of its expansion, the airport’s international terminal (Terminal 1) presented a capacity of six million passengers per year. International traffic constitutes 2.5 million passengers per year.

The domestic terminal (Terminal 2) has a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year.

Prior to Terminal 2's opening, Terminal 3 was used for operating domestic flights.

Terminal 3 is now used for pilgrimage and charter flights.
