The government of Tanzania revealed it hopes to use golf as a marketing tool for unexplored tourism attractions.

This was announced by the country’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism at the recent Southern Circuit Karibu Utalii Golf Challenge, which concluded at Mufindi Golf Club on July 29.

The ministry has been working in conjunction with Iringa Regional Commissioner’s office to develop attractions and facilities in the area. Iringa Regional Commissioner’s office organised the tournament, which saw over 80 golfers from around Africa compete in the inaugural event.

Deogratius Mdamu, acting director, ministry, natural resources and tourism, Tanzania, commented, the government hoped to use this event to drive year-round tourism to the Southern Highlands area.

Yeckonia Chaula, a veteran golf champion, Mufindi Golf Club, said such events successfully showcased unknown regions.
