Despite recording revenue of AED2.5 billion (USD689 million) in the first six months of the year (H1), up 9.9 percent year-on-year, flydubai reported a loss of AED142.5 million (USD38.8 million).

International Air Transport Association (IATA) revealed that in May, global revenue passenger kilometres rose 7.7 percent over the same month in 2016, which although slower than the 10.9 percent increase observed in April, it is ahead of the five- and 10-year average growth rates.

In January, global passenger demand grew 9.6 percent year-on-year in terms of revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), as shown in data released by International Air Transport Association, marking the strongest increase in more than five years.
