In 2017, the total contribution of travel and tourism to the Saudi economy was SAR240.9 billion (USD64.2 billion), once all the direct, indirect and induced benefits were taken into account. This represented an annual rise of 4.6 percent against GDP growth of one percent for the wider economy.
Travel and tourism supported 1.2 million jobs, 9.1 percent of total employment, while it contributed 9.4 percent of the total GDP of Saudi Arabia.
By 2028, over 1.5 million jobs are forecast to be dependent on Saudi Arabia’s tourism sector.
Gloria Guevara, CEO, WTTC, said, “Travel and tourism creates jobs, drives economic growth and helps build better societies. This is particularly the case for Saudi Arabia where our sector is growing at over four times the rate of the wider economy.”
