STR: Middle East and Africa Hotel Performance for Q2

Hotels in the Middle East reported negative second quarter (Q2) performance results this year, while hotels in Africa posted growth across the three key performance metrics, according to data from STR.

Hotels in the Middle East reported occupancy dropped 3.5 percent to 60.2 percent in the second quarter, while ADR declined 5.8 percent to USD159.13 and RevPAR fell 9.1 percent to USD95.73. Africa's hotels, on the other hand, saw occupancy increase 5.1 percent to 56.3 percent, ADR increase 6.6 percent to USD113.71 and RevPAR increase 12 percent to USD63.97.

Specifically, STR analysts revealed Morocco’s strong growth in ADR and RevPAR, and noted that multiple events stimulated the tourism economy in the country. Kuwait also received a lift in demand during Eid al-Fitr like most countries in the region, according to STR analysts.
